The Interesting Walk To The Ngahere

Yesterday in Te Ngahere we went for a walk to the ngahere(forest). The reason that we went for a walk was to look around at our surroundings and collect some understandings of what is  in the ngahere and what it looks like. We saw a lot of different trees and plants, some were alive but some had died and were starting to decompose. When being in the ngahere we were trying to recognize what plants and trees were around us. I saw many different types of ferns. I didn’t get to see any birds because we were a bit to loud but I heard them chirping. The ngahere is a very peaceful and beautiful place. Something I was good at was looking around and trying to see what I could recognize. Something I need to improve on is being more quiet. What is your favourite part about the ngahere?

The Amazing Food Web

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about food chains, a food chain is what animals eat to be able to survive. We created a food web that uses arrows to connect food sources and the food eater to one another. The arrows are there to explain how the different species feed of each other and provide energy sources to other  The reason the arrows are pointing towards the animal that eats the food is because it’s showing how the animal gets its energy transferred from other food sources. How my food web is different from the other one is I don’t have as much arrows pointing to the animals and what they eat I only have one. Another thing that is different about mine is I don't have colored arrows to explain what animal the food sources are going to. Something else that is different is that Whaea Becks one is more complex than mine. Example one: the kiwi eats the insects and then the energy gets transferred to the kiwi. Example two: the stoats eat the rats that way the rats energy gets transferred to the stoats. What was hard was figuring out how to place the arrows correctly. What was easy was finding out what food source the animals were going to connect to. Have you learned about the food sources before?

What Will Happen Next?

Last Friday, New-Zealand had a surprise tsunami warning. We all got alerts saying that we had to evacuate to high ground. How a tsunami is formed is after a earthquake the oceans, lakes and rivers start to drain out. Because of this after the water is drained out a huge amount will gush back,  backlashing one after another. A huge amount of water like this causes major problems for both living and nonliving things. That is why we had to evacuate to high ground so that there was less chance of any harm coming to us. There was a long time period to wait till we got another alert that said that we could safely make our way back to the area where we were located. Something I have learnt from that situation is patiences because the time we had to wait was long. Another thing I learnt from this was something may happen so it’s best to be prepared for the situation. What do you think you would do if you ever were put in a circumstance like this?

Outstanding Ecosystem

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the ecosystem and how everything in the ecosystem works. We learnt about how the animals and plants depend on each other. Why everything in nature has to play a role. if you take away one thing from nature it can affect the whole process. What that means is for example if the sun was to disappear, it would affect the process of plants and trees growing, then if the trees and plants don’t grow the plant eating animals wouldn't be able to grow, and the list carries on of things that wouldn't be able to cycle.

What I did well is I completed my work and learned some new interesting facts. What I could do better is focus more and try to complete higher standards  of work. What is one thing you have learned about the ecosystem?

Will add ecosystem drawing when posted

What Is The Kawa Of Care

For the past week we have been learning to explain how to use the Kawa Of Care.If you don’t know what a Kawa Of Care is, it is basically a contract for you chromebook that has a list of rules that you have to stick to , to make sure that your chromebook is safe. A Kawa Of Care is important to follow because if something happens and your chromebook and it ends up being damaged you will get insurance. If you don’t follow the Kawa Of Care then you won’t be able to get insurance because you didn't follow the Kawa Of Care contract. We all had to make a D.L.O showing an example from the Kawa Of Care. What I did well is created a movie to show what Kawa Of Care rule I had chosen. What I could do better is add more examples of Kawa Of Care in my D.L.O. What is a rule you think you can improve on?

What Can You See In This Art ?

Kia ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to do art called symmetry art that is when it is mirrored around, what we were mirroring was our names. We had to use separate colors for each other letter to make sure that the letters of my name stand out .We had to follow a set of instructions when doing this art. One thing that was hard was the tracing part because we had to try our hardest to not let the letters touch so that you could read the name. What I did well is finished my art and it turned out looking good. What I could do better is take my time and not rush doing my art work. Did you know what this type of art was before you read my blog post ?
