Energise

Today we had an visit from a lady called Whaea Gina, she is part of the energise program that try and get kids to live a healthier and happier life. She came to tell us about the right and wrong takeaway foods. We got a picture about a healthy heart and a unhealthy heart we had to match what food would go under the unhealthy and healthy hearts. Our first example was is Kfc healthy or unhealthy E.T.C. Whaea Gina tested if we listen to what she was talking about and not just nodding our heads. We got into groups and raced to see who would get the prize that Whaea Gina would give us when she would come next week.  These are the people that won the game and are getting the prize Mark O, Isabella paige, Ataahua, Nikara,Kaitlyn and AJ. I was so happy to know what food was good and not good because Whaea Gina told us about all the food that was in our community. Thank you Whaea Gina for coming to our school and teaching us about what food we should eat and shouldn't eat because we all know that we love takeaway foods. Blog you later.

Paihia School science fair.

This term in Te Ngahere we have been focusing on science. We had the Paihia School science fair. We had two very amazing judges one being our principal Mrs Lindsay and the other being  students mother at Paihia School Danielle Archer she is a marine biologist. We had our projects in groups some were Rat trap, water, slingshots ect. We had all the classes coming through from year 1 to 5 . We had so much fun it was so tiring. Later we had our assembly. Whaea krissy, whaea becks & Danielle was handing out the certificates. The places that people made were Jack, Imogen, Taleshia ,Neveah and Zara. second places was Vanya,Nikara,Breeze and Mihipeka. The third place winners were  Missy and Zhynaliyah. We all got one for participation. I love the science fair I have two more years of this. What I found challenging was doing the writing and trying to finish and cut all the papers to go on my board. What I think I could do better next time is check my work for writing grammar. What enjoyed was being done with the science fair work.

Science fair

This term in Te Ngahere we have been focusing on science. We are learning to carry out a scientific investigation. Jade,Angela and I have been investigating what area would catch the most rats. We learned that we have to put the bait right at the bottom because the mice can get in and eat the bait without setting off the trap. What I found challenging was the writing because our work was grammatically incorrect. I enjoyed setting the traps and the relief of not having to do science fair work anymore. We made a google presentation of our scientific process this is mine an my groups hope you like it.

The Ned show

On Thursday 1st August 2019 Paihia School had a visit from a lady called Nicole she is a part of the Ned show. She came into show us how we can find our mindset. She used Ned’s name as an example. Ned’s name stand for Never give up, Encourage others and do your best. Ned went on this adventure first he flew on a hot air balloon to Mt Everest the reason he went Mt Everest was because, that is the tallest mountain in the world so in order to get to the top he had to never give up. Ned meet a yetty called Yet and just as Ned went to give up Yet said “you haven’t accomplish this “yet”. Meaning don’t quit you will get it but it just hasn't happened “yet” the key word in that riddle was yet. Then Ned got another envelope and that one said for him to jump on a zipline to a tropical island where he met a lady captain. She sent him on an adventure through the jungle across the alligators to find an X marked in the sands so Ned dug at the x and he found a treasure box with rocks.Ned was upset because he did all that to find rocks but the lady captain said that Ned it only looks like a rock but it has been covered by non believing, giving up and not trying but inside there is something so beautiful. The captain pulled out the gem. His last envelope said “ You will go in a flying saucer. He got lifted up in the air and he meet these aliens their rocket ship was breaking. Ned said” this looks like a giant brain” and the alien replied “ I know” and the saucer broke some more. Ned said “ brain run on learning” can you guess what the alien said “ I know”. Then Ned said “brain run on learning fuel” no surprise the alien said I know”. Wait said Ned everytime you say I know it breaks more can I see you engine room. In the engine room all the wires were unhooked. There your problem said Ned they are not connected. Ha with saying I know break things so I am not learning. So if I get rid of I know then I can grow. Ned after that day decided to Never give up when things are hard, Encourage other because you will give them courage and Don’t say I know because you won’t grow in learning.Ned Got brought back to our school and he explain how he found his mindset and how we can use those steps. Nicole thank you for coming to our school and talking to us about how we can find our mindset. I really enjoyed learning that we can get brain freeze in learning because we are afraid of what we can’t do. What I think I could do better next time is be brave and answer some of the question.
