Great Marble Challenge

 Kia Ora, for the past week in Te Ngahere we have being doing the great marble challenge. The reason that we are doing this is for the science fair, this will helps us with doing the scientific method. How this challenge works is we get into groups and we come up with a design to make a ramp. We then think about what material we have to use and the height measurements. We came up with a hypothesis and we then try to test our results. We do 10 rolls each test and then we put together the results and we see what is one variable we could do to better our ramp. We did the challenge and then we found out who created an ramp with an amazing design and good results. My group came second place in the competition . We then did a reflection of our challenge and saw where we could improve. Have you ever done the great marble challenge before? 

The Tricky Science Fair

Kia Ora this week in Te Ngahere we went to Bay Of Islands to attend a science roadshow. It was very interesting and I got to learn about a lot of things such as, hot air, different gases, taste buds and many more. During this time the teachers there showed us an experiment that involved using fire and nitric oxygen. What I learned from this is that there is false test for example when we were watching the show one of the men there popped a balloon with an orange. People thought that this was because of the acid from the orange juice, but really it was the juice from the orange skin that caused the balloon to pop. I also learned that your height does not affect your jump. Even if your the tallest or shortest it doesn't matter. I want to thank Bay Of Islands College for allowing us to come to your beautiful school and come see the science fair. I also would like to thank the science program for you kindness and amazingness while we were there. Have you ever gone to a science fair? 

What Is a Scientific Method ?

Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. The reason we are learning about this is because we are going to be doing a science fair. The year 7 and 8’s in this class have been doing this for the past years they have been in this class but the year 6’s are new to all this. It is very interesting. We are making infographics if you don’t know what an infographic is it is a poster that has both information and pictures.We all made info-graphics about following a scientific method. What I think I did well is tried to do a better infographic than when i was a year 6. What I could do better is add more photos. Have you ever made an infographic before?
