The Missing Word Text

Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have being doing our panui, the focus of our panui was to fill in the blanks with words that we thought would make sense in the text. This will help us when we are writing and need to change some of ours words to make it make sense. The Text we are reading is about an otter that gets transferred to a different zoo and goes missing. I find that this is an very interesting challenge because we have to look back at words to see where they would go, and looking to see if it makes sense. What I think I have learnt when doing this is how to re-read my work because sometimes I get too  distracted. 

What I think I need to work on, is making sure that the words I use flow with the reading. Have you ever had to do fill in the blanks before?

Wonderful Wings Writing

 Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have being writing non- fiction stories about a short film named “wings” . We all had to watch this short film and pick a scene out from it. Why we are doing this is to improve our skills when writing these types of text. We have to use powerful words to be able to paint a picture in our readers mind. Using only words we have to be able to get an emotional response back from our readers. We also have to follow a storyline right to the end of our stories. I did this 2 years ago when I was a year 6 and looking back on my work I can see I have improved a lot. Here is some of my writing. What is the best nn-fiction story you have wrote before?

Knowledge About The Ngahere.

Kia Ora this week in Te Ngahere we are finishing off doing our ngahere creations. For the past term we have been working on making a creation about ngahere. We got to pick either a plant,tree or animal. We did lots of research on the ngahere and we took notes to make it easier to make our creations. Me and my buddy picked the Tuatara to research and make a creation about.. The reason that we are doing this is because our class name is Te Ngahere and it will be a good idea to make something about the real ngahere.  What I did we is created a good information. What I could do better is get my work done faster. What's your favourite thing in the ngahere?

Fantastic Wood Works

Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere the year 7 and 8’s traveled to Moerewa School for technology.

The year 7’s attended cooking class and the year 8’s attended wood works. In wood works we were starting our projects of making a waka. If you don’t know what a waka is it is a Maori traditional canoe. On the sides including having  many Maori designs and different aspects on the waka. We all got instructions from woodwork teacher Mr E. I like being in Mr E’s class because he is very patient and likes us to be hands on when we are in his class. He gives us a set of instructions but instead of him writing them down he gave us a demonstration. He showed us the techniques and measurements we would have to use when making our waka’s. He also went over the safety rules, safety rules are there to decrease the chances of us getting hurt or harmed when in his class. What I did well was listened and tried my best to get the measurements right. What I could do better is build up the courage to cut my art out. What is your best project you have made before?

Fractions and decimals

Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about decimals and fractions. We got into our groups and we got handed a problem. We had to ask each other questions like ( how did you get the answer?), ( Why did you work it out like this? ) ect. The reason that we ask these questions is because its going to help us understand more about how our buddy's got there answer instead of just copying there words and having no understanding. We solve problems like ( how many ways we could make 1.7 )  Here is a photo of my learning. Have you ever done fractions and decimals before ? 

Saftey Smart Surfing

 Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we did a activity on smart surfing. We did this to help us when researching things on the internet. Something important to remember is to always use keywords, keywords will help google find what you are looking for easier. It will also give you a bigger range of information you’re looking for if you use keywords. If you don't use keywords google might come up with some unnecessary information and you won’t get the information that you are looking for. Do you think this is handy to know ? Here is my D.L.O

The amazing Coastal seas

 Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have being learning about the Coastal Sea’s. Something we learned about was, sea animals, areas in the sea, food chains etc. We started this learning by watching a 49 minute long video that had some amazing information about the Coastal Seas. While watching the video we had to write down some of the facts, so that it would help us make a D.L.O afterwards. Once the video was finished we selected some of the facts and started to make our D.L.O. Our D.L.O had to include facts relating to each other and photos relating to what our fact are about. What I did well was listen and write down some good facts at the same time. What I could do better is make my D.L.O more interesting. What Is your favourite sea animal?
