We Are Hope

Kia Ora,  in Te Ngahere we had a very special guest come to our classroom from I Am Hope his name is Tai , If you don’t know what I Am Hope is it is a foundation that supports New Zealand with mental health. Mental health is important because as Tai said to us it gives you two voices a voice called an inner critic and voice of reason. Tai explained that the inner critic  voice is the voice that tells you that you can’t do something and that you don’t have purpose in this life. A voice of reason is the the voice that is telling you to keep going and to keep achieving  our goals and that you do have a purpose in this life. He shared his story with us and about his upbringing, it was very emotional because I could relate to some of his backstory. He has a big heart going around to different school to share his story because I think that a lot of children nowadays are going through many things with the society changing and there is social media. I want to thank Tai for coming to share his message around Aotearoa and I want to say that everyone has their ups and downs but tell your friends how much you love them ask them if they are okay. Be someone else's hope. Has I Am Hope ever came to your kura before?

Science Fair Ending

Kia Ora,  in Te Ngahere we have being doing  Science Fair this science fair had many ranges of project about all different topics. We learned about the scientific method that included, a question, aim, research, hypothesis, variables, material, doing the experiment, collecting data and presenting our findings. I learned that without one of these very important steps in the scientific process you wouldn't be able to proceed with the project at all. I also learned  about what an independent variable is, a dependant variable and a control variable. A independent variable is, thing we are going to be changing. A dependant variable is something we mesure. A controlled variable is things we do not change. The reason that doing the scientific method is important is because it guides you through your project and it helps to collect more accurate data. During our project I individually struggled with understanding how to display the data but I was lucky enough to be working with someone that was good in that area of work. I think that the easiest part of this project was the testing part because we were physically seeing the project happen and that helped us with being able to understand more about our project. Our project was trying to get kids to eat healthier options so that they can get the nutrients they need.  With this project a lot of this could have given us a different result because there was a lot of things changing and a lot of different things that could have been different because of the variables being changed so it is important to change one variable so that your are able to check what made your project worse of better. Here is a D.L.O I created relating to my project. Have you ever done a science project before?

The Tricky Tennis Problem

Kia Ora, in Te Ngahere we are learning about different graphs because it will help us when we are doing science fair and we will need to learn how to do these graphs so we can organize our data in a more understandable way. The problem was about two classrooms and they were trying to see how far they could manage to throw a tennis ball in the range of 0-20 metres. We learn't about what a range was and we learn't how to arrange the data correctly We created a D.L.O to show you our working out. What I could do better is understand why the questions we were given were true/false. What I did well is learnt what the ranges were. Have you ever done  a problem like this before?

Major Marble Challenge Take 2#

Kia Ora, on the last day of term 2 we did a final mable challenge this was to help us with teamwork and communication. We did a test for this challenge before but we restarted so we could modify our projects and try to test again to get better results. Something my team and I did well was try to better our ramp even though it had a good result the first time. What we could have done better was talk more and to come up with something everyone likes. Here are some photos. My original score was 24 and my second score was 18 our ramp didnt improve this round sadly. Have you ever done any challenge like the marble challenge ever before ?

Great Marble Challenge

Kia Ora, for the past week in Te Ngahere we have being doing the great marble challenge. The reason that we are doing this is for the science fair, this will helps us with doing the scientific method. How this challenge works is we get into groups and we come up with a design to make a ramp. We then think about what material we have to use and the height measurements. We came up with a hypothesis and we then try to test our results. We do 10 rolls each test and then we put together the results and we see what is one variable we could do to better our ramp. We did the challenge and then we found out who created an ramp with an amazing design and good results. My group came second place in the competition . We then did a reflection of our challenge and saw where we could improve. Have you ever done the great marble challenge before?

The Tricky Science Fair

Kia Ora this week in Te Ngahere we went to Bay Of Islands to attend a science roadshow. It was very interesting and I got to learn about a lot of things such as, hot air, different gases, taste buds and many more. During this time the teachers there showed us an experiment that involved using fire and nitric oxygen. What I learned from this is that there is false test for example when we were watching the show one of the men there popped a balloon with an orange. People thought that this was because of the acid from the orange juice, but really it was the juice from the orange skin that caused the balloon to pop. I also learned that your height does not affect your jump. Even if your the tallest or shortest it doesn't matter. I want to thank Bay Of Islands College for allowing us to come to your beautiful school and come see the science fair. I also would like to thank the science program for you kindness and amazingness while we were there. Have you ever gone to a science fair?

What Is a Scientific Method ?

Kia Ora, this week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. The reason we are learning about this is because we are going to be doing a science fair. The year 7 and 8’s in this class have been doing this for the past years they have been in this class but the year 6’s are new to all this. It is very interesting. We are making infographics if you don’t know what an infographic is it is a poster that has both information and pictures. We all made info-graphics about following a scientific method. What I think I did well is tried to do a better infographic than when i was a year 6. What I could do better is add more photos. Have you ever made an infographic before?
